    Blue Chip Racing Report

I love Thanksgiving, a big turkey feast and then a long weekend of bar banging indoor BMX racing.   Being so close to WNC, Morristown is always a Blue Chip favorite and the squad showed up in force,   looking to continue the strong performance we put in at the Lexington National.

Friday night was the U.S Open and a great opportunity to check out the track so that’s what   Christopher, Emily and Cager did. Unfortunately for Cager he was dealing with some chain   misalignment and found himself laying on the track as much as he was riding it. Emily fared better   and came a close second. What can I say about “The Terminator”, Christopher Grice he has turned   himself into a BMX machine and has dominated the 5 Rookie class since Grands, and at the end of   Friday night, everyone in his class knew who the favourite was going into the weekend.
    Saturday-Day 1
The first indoor of the season is always a tough one to call, as one tooth on the chain ring can be the difference between first and third in the heats. So after some gear adjustments on a few of the Blue Chip armada, it was time to enjoy the Semi’s and Mains. Tough luck was the theme of the day in the Semi’s as we lost new Novice Jaxon Banks in some first straight mayhem , and Scott Spieler who had every right to be rusty, since he just got back on his bike since breaking his collar-bone in Lexington.

Bad luck continued in the Main’s when Dalton through a chain in the gate. But some Blue chip Bravado shone through with Brandon taking a win, Skipper riding away from his Main, and lets not forget the Terminator Chris Grice, who put another victory notch in the belt.

If you can’t be first second isn’t bad, so Peyton, Josie, Emily and Jack settled for the two spot with hopes of improving the next day. Rounding out the mains, we had Devon in 5th, Dylan in 5th, Cager in 4th, and Colton in 6th. I also want to mention Cody Nanney who was in a big, tough group in 15 Nov. he raced hard all day and just mathematically missed moving into the Main.

That brings me to the ride of the weekend, Owen “Not Too Sick To Quit” Reidesel came to his very first National, and promptly got ill (fever, dizzy, the whole bit) during the practice session. Did this 5 year old Blue Chipper go home? NO-WAY!!!! He did what all self respecting BMXer would do, he gutted it out through the Heats, he chewed down some ibruprophen, he even had a nap… And then he got into the gate for the Main and rode a FEVERISHLY fast lap to nab 2nd place in 5 Rookie, awesome job Owen you showed your true character all day, never whining once and doing your best through some very adverse circumstances. Everyone was very impressed, GREAT-JOB!!!!
    Sunday-Day2
Sunday’s two Moto transfer format leaves no room for errors, or crashes so it is especially difficult on us hand wringing parents. Lucky for us all the Blue Chips came to ride on Day two and Lady Luck decided to cut us some slack.

Brandon Hardestey dominated the 17-19 Novice class all weekend with his second win in two days. Devon Long Gone-Zales used some of that WNC last straight pull to nab a 3rd. Scott shook off some of that rust and took the win in 12 Nov. with fellow Chipper Dylan fighting back for 7th after the worst gate I personally have ever seen. (Wink, Wink)

Dalton and Peyton raced in for 2nd and 3rd in 11Nov. Colton “Night-Train” Nanney rolled in for 5th in 7Nov., Jack took second for the second day in a row, as did the Diva’s Josie and Emily.

That leaves our two mini Monsters, Christopher and Keaton, who both went wire to wire for the wins in their respective groups 5Rookie and 6 Nov.

I also want to put a shout out to my buddy Action Jaxon Banks, who fought and crashed all weekend long in his first Novice National. He left bruised and battered but I promise after some SST (Super Secret Training) this winter he will be a force in that group by Springtime.

As for the Team Score this weekend, we scored a big number on Sunday that should keep us near the top of the overall rankings. Everyone rode well this weekend and I think everyone had fun in our little WNC section, and that is all we ask as a Team. Do your best and have fun.

Keep your eyes open for the SST sessions if the weather is permitting, and I’ll see some of you in Lexington Va.
