2009
YEAR IN REVIEW They say time flies when you are having fun. So last season must have been a blast because it doesn’t seem that long ago that small groups of WNC BMX’s were heading down to Georgia for the Southern Charm National last February.
If there was a downside to speak of last season it had to be the amount of bad weather we had here in the Mountains, and the fact that mud around the Gazebo became a weekly issue. But for the most part once we got the season rolling in May, we had a good time whenever we got together for a local race, or sometimes just hanging out at practice night.
The track itself held up to the soggy summer quite well, but I feel the old track lay-out is need of a facelift so once we dry out a little we are hoping to change it up some just to keep the hot-shots on their toes. The other big Track news was the installation of the lights at the end of the season, riding in the spring and fall just got a little easier.
Team wise the season was a great success as the Blue chip squad fought for a year end podium position right to the end. Unfortunately along with early season good fortune came some late season bad fortune and we slid from a solid fourth place to 7th place overall for the long hard NBL season. That being said, 7th isn’t that bad considering our little track team is competing against Teams that recruit riders from all over the country. What makes me proudest is we are based in the toughest part of the country (Team wise) the Southeast, and continually battle hard with the Nations best Teams. So I will consider Top Ten to be a great success. Speaking of success, individually Blue Chip team members littered the top ten throughout the classes they represented and that is something to be proud of as it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, not only by the riders but by their families as well. A special shout out to Blue Chip Racing’s biggest kid Lexy Lewis for winning the National title in his class good job Lexy, now repeat that feat in Expert (Hoo-Ya!!). Other big Blue Chip news was the addition of Luca and Walker Shaw to the Squad, hopefully their tenacity, hard work and desire to do well will be a source of inspiration for the rest of their new team-mates.
This season hopefully Weaverville BMX will continue its growth in the community, and hopefully it will continue to be a place where everyone can have fun either watching the kids ride or grabbing a bike and riding yourself. But be carefull, once bitten by the BMX bug no medicine will cure your need for track speed. So re-charge the BMX batteries for an even better 2010 season and make sure to tell everyone you know how much fun we have. You know the saying “the more the merrier”.
In closing, please remember we can always use a hand, and I am open to anyone’s ideas or suggestions on how to make the track a better place so if you have an epiphany of any kind let me know and we will try and put it into place.
Thanks again to everyone who helped out in any way last season; your assistance is always welcome and hugely appreciated. To David Grice and Merrill Lynch, no words can describe how lucky we are to have your support. Your generosity has made the operation of the track 100% easier. Thank-you, from everyone at Weaver-Vegas.
See you in the Spring…The Ritchie Clan |

This season is unique for us as we do not have to build the track to get the season started, but we still need your help. Lets expose as many people to the track as we can this year, any kid you can think of that enjoys riding a bike is going to love BMX. Tell them and thier parents how much fun we have and direct them to the website (flyers are being made). Spreading the word is our best form of advertisement, I promise to give everyone an awesome track, just help me out by bringing out some new riders. WNC's BLUE CHIP RACING is already turning heads with our local approach to Team racing at the National level, imagine if all our areas best riders got involved. |
